The Art and Practice of Compassionate Depossession
Have you ever sensed a presence overshadowing yourself or another person? Have you ever looked into a familiar personās eyes and felt that you were seeing a different person? Have you ever heard the voice of another person inside your head that you knew wasnāt yours? Have you ever wondered if there is a spiritual dimension to the intergenerational patterns youāve observed within your family of origin? Have you ever struggled with negative self-talk that you couldnāt resolve psychotherapeutically?
Each of these scenarios describes a different symptom or expression of a form of spiritual illness called possession illness. Although that term may sound unsettling, thereās a simple explanation for how it happens, as well as a proven remedy.
Possession illness occurs when the soul of someone who has died doesnāt cross over or go to the light successfully, but instead, becomes attached to a living person ā known or unknown to them.
What is compassionate depossession?
Compassionate depossession is the twofold remedial process for treating possession illness.
- The first step involves identifying the presence of the suffering being ā or displaced soul ā that is attached to the living person and helping the two become decoupled from one another.
- The second step involves helping the soul of the deceased person complete their journey by crossing over successfully, restoring the living person as the sole occupant of their body and energy field.
Both of these steps occur by way of a partnership between a human practitioner of compassionate depossession and the benevolent helping spirits who specialize in diagnosing and remedying possession illness.
What is the the primary learning outcome?
During this four-day training, you will develop proficiency as a practitioner of compassionate depossession so that you can accurately diagnose and effectively remedy possession illness in others in collaboration with your helping spirits.
In order to gain sufficient practice learning this process, you will be alternating between being in the role of the client and being in the role of the practitioner throughout the training. However, the personal healing you receive will be considered to be a secondary benefit, as the purpose of the training is for you to become a practitioner of compassionate depossession.
Given that, if you feel you may be suffering from possession illness and your primary reason for considering this training would be to address that, you are kindly invited to please seek out a skilled and experienced practitioner instead of pursuing this training. Please feel free to reach out to our office and we would be happy to provide you with a referral.

What precludes the soul of a dying person from crossing over?
Many people who have been at the bedside of the dying experience a āthinning of the veils.ā During these āthin times,ā people often sense the presence of benevolent spirit guides surrounding the person who is dying. These specific helping spirits are known as psychopomp allies.
A psychopomp ally is a conveyor or conductor of souls. Psychopomp allies are recognized cross-culturally in the forms of benevolent ancestors, animal spirits, gods and goddesses, angelic beings, deities, teachers and masters, etc. Classically, psychopomp allies were known to accompany the soul to the light once it had become decoupled from the body, which is why the word psychopomp can be translated to āguide of souls.ā
When someone is in the dying process, their psychopomp allies keep vigil in the unseen dimensions of reality alongside their loved ones and end-of-life care providers in the physical world. The presence of the psychopomp allies serves three essential functions: to signal to the dying that death is approaching; to help them prepare to release their body; and to guide their soul to the other side. However, most people are not aware that this spiritual support is available, nor how to access it.
Correspondingly, the person who is dying may overlook the presence of their psychopomp allies altogether. Or, they may not understand that the psychopomp allies are benevolent beings who are offering to guide their soul to the other side. They may, therefore, resist going to the light and could thus become a āsuffering being,ā or a disincarnate soul that is lost in the human realm and could become attached to a living person.
The reasons why this happens are widespread. A person who is dying may be unwilling or unable to be conveyed to the light by their psychopomp allies once theyāve passed because:
- They have internalized religious and/or ancestral beliefs such as the fear of judgement or hell
- They have unresolved issues or unfinished business
- They are carrying guilt or shame
- They mistake the benevolent psychopomp allies for malevolent beings
- Their cosmology doesnāt include the possibility of being welcomed into the light, even if they have caused themselves or others harm
- They donāt realize that theyāre dead, which can occur when death comes without warning (such as a sudden accidental death like a car crash, or a sudden violent death like a murder)
- Theyāre unable to let go of their attachments to their belongings, money, status, etc.
- They havenāt created a succession plan that enables them to pass on what theyāre holding or carrying, because you canāt leave with something that isnāt yours (this could equally apply to the founder of a business as to a family member who has yet to determine which family heirlooms to bequeath to which relatives)
- Their loved ones are very attached to them, which can preclude a person who has died from crossing over successfully
- They donāt want to leave their loved ones (such as a young parent who wants to protect their young child or children)
The beauty of compassionate depossession
Oftentimes, suffering beings who have become attached to living people have forgotten who they are; they have forgotten that they have the light of the divine in their hearts. This practice is a gentle, loving, effective means of helping suffering beings remember who they are and find their way to the light with the support of their psychopomp allies. Practitioners of compassionate depossession feel it is an immense privilege to tend to the souls of the dead in this way, which serves to liberate them while also restoring a state of sovereignty to the living. Correspondingly, our approach to learning this practice will at once be reverential and practical.Ā
